Fleming's Fourth Title Highlights First Day of GLIAC Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Senior Women's Javelin thrower Jenna Fleming (Hilton Beach, Ont.) won her fourth-consecutive GLIAC Championship to highlight a successful first day of competition for the Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program at the 2024 GLIAC Outdoor Championships.. The women's team is currently sitting in sixth place with 14 points on the board.

Fleming continued the dominance that Laker fans have come to expect from her, with her first toss of 45.66m being good enough to claim first place, adding on to the extended list of accolades from her storied LSSU career.

Janelle Docter (Howard City, Mich.) also had a strong showing for the women's throwers, breaking her personal best in the hammer throw by almost four meters with a toss of 44.21m to place fifth overall and tack on four more points for her team. 

Trey Nieman (Morenci, Mich.) narrowly missed the finals in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 43.41m to place tenth.

Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) had the top showing for the Lakers in the women's 1500m run with a personal best time of 5:18.91.

Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.) also notched a new personal record in the men's 800m race, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:04.28.
