Laker Track and Field Competes at SVSU Tune-Up

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program competed at the SVSU Tune-Up on Friday.

Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) and Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) each earned top-10 placements in the 400-meter dash with respective times of 1:04.96 and 1:06.37, and both marks set new personal records for the pair. Lamming would then go on to clear a personal record height of 1.43m for a fifth place finish in the high jump.

Gwen Phillips (Cadillac, Mich.) set a new personal best time of 6:50.69 in the women's mile, and Olivia Peter (Cass City, Mich.) also finished the day with a new personal best time of 11:51.75 in the 3000-meter run.

The women's throwers also put together a solid outing, highlighted by Janelle Docter (Howard CIty, Mich.) placing fourth overall in the weight throw with a personal record distance of 13.68m. Maddi Gould (Sanford, Mich.) and Kennedy Konkle (Oxford, Mich.) would also place 10th and 11th, respectively, in the weight throw with Konkle's distance of 9.69m also setting a new personal record.

Meanwhile, Ava Donmyer (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) and Paige Johnson (Eckerman, Mich.) each set new personal bests in the Shot Put with respective distances of 9.87 and 9.34 meters.

Michael Sherman (Boyne City, Mich.) and Carter Oshelski (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) each earned top-ten finishes in the men's 400-meter dash with respective times of 52.09 and 52.82 with Oshelski notching a new personal record on the race. 

Sam Markle (Berrien Springs, Mich.) and Clay James (Burns, Wyo.) both went on to set new personal bests in the 800-meter run with respective times of 2:09.63 and 2:20.06.

Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.), Ethan Meehle (Midland, Mich.), Jacob Kochanski (Alpena, Mich.), and Gary Haight (Charlevoix, Mich.) all ran for new personal records in the mile.

Skylar Williams (Battle Creek, Mich.) ran for a personal best time of 9:41.99 in the 3000-meter run.

Avery Timm (Petoskey, Mich.) earned a top-ten placement in the 60-meter hurdles after a time of 9.14 in the prelims earned him a spot in the finals.

The 4x400 relay unit of Sherman, Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.), Timm, and Oshelski placed seventh overall with a time of 3:37.21.

In the high jump, Riley Traver (Hartford, Mich.) and Noah Murray (Macomb, Mich.) placed third and fourth overall, respectively, with Traver's mark of 1.88m also setting a new personal record.

Timm would continue to have a strong showing in multiple jumping events with respective placements of third and fourth overall in the long jump and the triple jump. 

Ryan Reiniche (Hillsdale, Mich.) placed eighth in the shot put, and Ethan Ring (Fair Haven, Mich.) set a new personal best in the hammer throw.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the GLIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Saginaw Valley State, on Saturday, Feb. 24.
