Laker Track and Field Competes at SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) track and field program competed at the Jet's Pizza Invitational, hosted by Saginaw Valley State, on Friday and Saturday.

Carter Oshelski (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) notched a new personal best time of 53.06 in the 400-meter dash. 

In the men's 800-meter run, five different Lakers came away with a personal record with Sam Markle (Berrien Springs, Mich.) pacing the way with a time of 2:10.71. 

Roy Bowman (Jerome, Mich.) and Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.) posted the top times for the Lakers in the mile with the pair separated by less than half of a second. Meanwhile, Ethan Meehle (Midland, Mich.), Jacob Kochanski (Alpena, Mich.), Gary Haight (Charlevoix, Mich.), Oliver Wisniewski (Berkley, Mich.), and Clay James (Burns, Wyo.) all recorded personal bests.

Both Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) and Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) came away with new personal records in the 3000-meter race with respective times of 9:14.65 and 9:18.90.

Avery Timm (Petoskey, Mich.) ran for a personal best time of 9.07 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, and he would then go on to leap 6.2 meters for a top-ten finish in the long jump. Meanwhile, Riley Traver (Hartford, Mich.) cleared a height of 1.83m to place fourth in the high jump.

Ryan Reiniche led the Laker men's throwers with a 9th place finish in the shot put after tossing for a distance of 13.95m, and Ethan Ring (Fair Haven, Mich.) threw for a personal record 10.05m.

On the women's side, Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) and Keira Lamming (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) each notched a personal record time in the 400-meter run with respective times of 1:06.09 and 1:06.61.

Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.), Sarah McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.), and Gwen Phillips (Cadillac, Mich.) each had a personal best performance in the women's mile while McDaniel also notched a personal record in the 800-meter run as well. 

Julie Sheehy (Walkerville, Mich.) ran for a personal best time of 12:20.60 in the 3000-meter run.

The women's distance medley unit of Olivia Peter (Cass City, Mich.), Sofia Salazar (Valle del Cauca, Columbia), Mosher, and Kapushinski placed fourth in the relay with a time of 13:44.83.

Both Janelle Docter (Howard City, Mich.) and Kennedy Konkle (Oxford, Mich.) threw for new personal bests in the weight throw with Docter leading the way with a seventh place finish overall after tossing for a distance of 13.50 meters.

The Lakers return to action on Friday, Feb. 16 when they return to Saginaw Valley for the SVSU Tune-Up.
