Laker Track and Field Competes at SVSU Holiday Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University track and field program competed at the Saginaw Valley State Holiday Classic.

In the 60-meter dash event, senior Andrew Giddens (Cadillac, Mich.) claimed a fifth place finish with a time of 7.36 seconds, and Michael Rand (Spring Arbor, Mich.) finished with a time of 8.04 to place eleventh.

Giddens and Rand would then go on to notch final distances of 5.88 and 4.94 meters, respectively, in the long jump for the second event of the heptathlon before the pair threw for 9.82 and 8.49 meters, respectively, in the shot put event.

In the high jump event, Giddens finished with a final mark of 1.71 meters to secure an eighth place finish in the event while Rand was able to place eleventh, leaping a height of 1.38 meters.

Giddens would have another strong performance in the 60-meter hurdles, narrowly securing a third place finish in the event with a time of 8.79 seconds. Meanwhile, Rand placed eleventh with a time of 11.73 seconds.

In the pole vault event, Rand was able to launch himself over a mark of 2.7 meters for a ninth place finish with Giddens right behind him, placing tenth with a mark of 2.6 meters.

Rand and Giddens would then go on to secure seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively, in the 1,000-meter run with respective times of 2:58.98 and 3:00.75.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the Jack Skoog Classic, hosted by Central Michigan, on Saturday, Jan. 21.
