Preview: Track & Field's Indoor Season Continues at the GVSU Tune-Up on Friday

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams will be competing at Grand Valley State University's Tune-Up on Friday, Feb. 18 in Allendale, Mich. The field events are set to begin at 1:45 p.m. while the running events are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start. 

Field Events

The men's and women's high jump will open the slate of events at the GVSU Tune-Up at 1:45 p.m. Sophomores Noah Murray and Riley Traver will represent the Lakers in the men's event. The weight throw and the shot put competitions will follow as both are set for a 2:00 p.m. start. The women's weight throw will feature senior Brittney Ryan and sophomore Maddison Gould while the men's event will follow with junior Timothy Howes and freshman Kamuran Ramadanov are set to compete in the men's event. The men's shot put will include Howes, Ramadanov, and sophomore Ryan Reiniche. The women's shot put competition will include Ryan and Gould as well as sophomores Jenna Fleming and Bethany Wilson

The Lakers will look to have a strong showing in the jump events. Junior Riley Nichols will take part in the men's long jump and Murray will represent the Lakers in both the triple jump and pole vault events. In the women's events, freshman Jayda Williams and junior Breanyl Baker will compete in the long jump competition. Williams will also compete in the triple jump event for the Lakers. Freshman Kara Mosher will round out the women's jumpers as she is set to take part in the women's pole vault event. 

Running Events

The running events will open with the 60 meter hurdles prelims at 3:30 p.m. which will feature junior Andrew Giddens in the men's race. In the 60 meter dash prelims, the Lakers will be represented by Jayda Williams in the women's race and Riley Nichols and Nikolas Curlett in the men's event.

The women's and men's mile is the next event on the schedule of events and the Lakers will be well-represented in both races. The men's team will be led by senior distance runner David Mitter, while sophomore Ryan O'Neill, sophomore Roy Bowman, freshman Reese Camp, senior Kendal Delpiere, freshman Skylar Williams and freshman Riley Sponseller will also be running in the mile distance. Freshman Josie Morrow, freshman Olivia Stevens, senior Leah Bell, and freshman Katelyn Moore will be competing in the women's mile event. 

Freshman Michael Rand will take part in the 400 meter men's race for the Lakers while Mosher will be competing in the same distance on the women's side. 

The Lakers will also be well represented in the 800 meter race with freshmen Sydney Kapushinski and Sofia Salazar competing in the women's race. In the men's 800 meter distance event, sophomore Aaron Nachazel, sophomore Michael Sherman, and junior Eric Somsky will compete for the Lakers. 

The 200 meter race will be the final individual event that the Lakers are set to compete in at the GVSU Tune Up. Nikolas Curlett will take part in the men's race while Breanyl Baker will run in the women's race. 

The 1600 meter relay will close out the slate of events. The Laker men's relay team will include Andrew Giddens, Michael Rand, Michael Sherman, and Ryan O'Neill
