Preview: Track & Field to Take Part in Central Michigan's Jack Skoog Open

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at Central Michigan University's Jack Skoog Open this Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Jack Skoog Indoor Track in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The field events are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. while the track events are scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.

Field Events

The weight throw and shot put events will open the slate of events at the Jack Skoog Open and the Lakers will have a number of student-athletes competing in the throwing events. In the women's shot put, senior Brittney Ryan will be representing the Lakers while sophomores Jenna Fleming and Bethany Wilson will both be competing in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers. Ryan will also represent the Lakers in the women's weight throw competition. 

In the men's throwing events, sophomore Ryan Reiniche, junior Timothy Howes, and freshman Kamuran Ramadanov will be competing for the Lakers. Reiniche, who set a personal record in the shot put at the SVSU Classic on Jan. 14 (15.52m), will look to have another strong performance in the event this weekend. Howes and Ramadanov will both be partaking in the shot put as well as the weight throw. 

To round out the field events, the Lakers will be represented by freshman Kara Mosher in the women's pole vault competition and freshman Jayda Williams in the long jump event. 

Running Events

The track events will open with the men's distance medley relay at 11:30 a.m. and the four-man race will include Roy Bowman, Michael Sherman, Ryan O'Neill, and David Mitter

The mile run will follow as the next event and the Lakers will have four runners taking part in the race. Freshman Sydney Kapushinski, freshman Olivia Stevens, senior Leah Bell and freshman Katelyn Moore are all entered to take part in the women's mile. 

Freshman Judson Fargo will take part in the 60 meter hurdles race for the Lakers. Fargo is coming off a PR at the SVSU Classic in the event as he placed sixth in the event final. 

In the 400 meter race, the men's event will include sophomore Blake Dunning and junior Eric Somsky. In the women's 400 meter event, freshman Sofia Salazar will participate for the Lakers.The Lakers will be well represented in the men's 800 meter event with five athletes taking part in the race. Bowman, O'Neill, Michael Rand, Aaron Nachazel, and Riley Sponseller will all be participating for the Lakers. 

In the 60 meter dash, junior Dwayne Thompson and sophomore Nikolas Curlett will compete in the men's race while junior Breanyl Baker, Fleming, and Williams will run in the women's event. 

Just after 2:00 p.m., the 200 meter dash is scheduled to take place with the men's event going first. Fargo and Curlett will compete in the men's event while Mosher will take part in the women's race. The men's 3000 meter run will be the final individual event of the day for the Lakers with Mitter, senior Kendal Delpiere, freshman Skylar Williams and freshman Reese Camp will take part in the men's distance event. 

The final track event of the meet for the Lakers is the men's 4x400 meter relay. Lake Superior State's relay group includes Dunning, Somsky, Sherman and Rand.
