UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Lake Superior State student-athlete David Mitter set a new school record in the 5,000-meter distance with a time of 14:24.97 on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the 2021 Indoor Track and Field Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in University Center, Mich.
Mitter, who set a school record in the distance earlier this month, bested his own personal record by 10 seconds (14:34.97). The senior distance runner placed third in the race, behind a pair of Grand Valley State runners.
With the record setting race, Mitter has qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are scheduled to take place on March 11-13 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Mitter previously qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships in the 10,000-meter distance.
