Lake Superior

Chase Ward enters his second season as the Director of Athletic Communications at Lake Superior State University, serving as the primary media contact for all 12 varsity sports at LSSU.

Ward played a pivotal role in upgrading the livestreaming quality and capabilities inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium in the summer of 2023, and he served as a member of the 2023 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Midwest Regional Committee.

Ward, a native of Waverly, Ohio, comes to LSSU from Newberry College in Newberry, S.C. where he served as an Athletic Communications Assistant for the 2021-22 academic year. At Newberry, he was the primary media contact for five varsity programs (volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, and both tennis programs). In addition to his responsibilities with his assigned sports, Ward also strived to do whatever was necessary throughout the department including serving as a public address announcer, training student-workers, and assisting with the development of a social media plan for the South Atlantic Conference Championship winning Newberry College football team, and he has traveled to provide live coverage of multiple postseason tournaments, including the Newberry College women’s tennis program’s NCAA Tournament appearance.

Prior to his time at Newberry, Ward served as one of the most trusted student interns at his alma mater, Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio while also being a member of the men’s tennis team and serving as a student assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs.
