Laker Athletics Announces the Hiring of Chase Ward

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University Athletic Department has hired Chase Ward as Athletic Communications Director as announced by Athletic Director, Dr. Dave Diles, on Wednesday.

"Our department is very happy to welcome Chase," said Diles. "His background, skills and experiences have prepared him very well to contribute to our sports communication efforts. In addition, I anticipate that he will be tremendously helpful in the overall administrative efforts of the department."

Ward, a native of Waverly, Ohio, comes to LSSU from Newberry College in Newberry, S.C. where he served as an Athletic Communications Assistant for the 2021-22 academic year. At Newberry, he was the primary media contact for five varsity programs (volleyball, men's basketball, women's lacrosse, and both tennis programs). In addition to his responsibilities with his assigned sports, Ward also strived to do whatever was necessary throughout the department including serving as a public address announcer, training student-workers, and assisting with the development of a social media plan for the South Atlantic Conference Championship winning Newberry College football team, and he has traveled to provide live coverage of multiple postseason tournaments, including the Newberry College women's tennis program's NCAA Tournament appearance.

"I am incredibly thankful to Dr. Diles and everyone involved in the hiring process for giving me this opportunity," Ward said. "I am excited to get started, and I am looking forward to working with the administrative staff, coaches, and student-athletes at LSSU."

Prior to his time at Newberry, Ward served as one of the most trusted student interns at his alma mater, Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio while also being a member of the men's tennis team and serving as a student assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs.
