Laker Cross Country Programs Compete at Ray Helsing Invitational

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University men's and women's cross country programs finished with respective third and fifth placements at the Ray Helsing Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Ferris State, on Saturday.

Reese Camp (Highland, Mich.) led the way for the Lakers in the men's 8,000-meter race, finishing 17th with a time of 28:56.54, and Ryan O'Neill (Perry, Mich.) was only seconds behind him for a 19th place finish. Aaron Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) and Ethan Nachazel (East Jordan, Mich.) would then finish with consecutive placements of 26th and 27th respectively. Skylar Williams (Battle Creek, Mich.) crossed the finish line about thirty seconds later to finish 33rd, and Michael Rand (Spring Arbor, Mich.) and Riley Sponseller (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) rounded out the men's day with respective placements of 40th and 47th.

Sydney Kapushinski (Imlay City, Mich.) was the top finisher for the Lakers in the women's collegiate 5,000-meter race, placing 34th with a time of 22:09.84. Kate Baker (Northville, Mich.) and Olivia Stevens (Grand Haven, Mich.) would then finish with consecutive placements of 46th and 47th, respectively. Gwen Phillips (Cadillac, Mich.) and Kara Mosher (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) were not far behind, crossing the finish line with sub-25-minute times. Sofia Salazar (Valle del Cauca, Colombia) and Katelyn Moore (Grayling, Mich.) rounded out the lineup for the Lakers with respective placements of 55th and 57th.

The Lakers return to action on Oct. 8 when they travel to Wisconsin for the Lucian Rosa Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
