Kalinowski Named to All-GLIAC 2nd Team; Velasque Receives Honorable Mention

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Junior setter Emily Kalinowski (South Lyon, Mich.) has been named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Second Team, as announced at the GLIAC tournament banquet on Thursday. This marks the first time that a Laker has received All-GLIAC first or second team honors since 2011 when Brittany Newberry received second team conference honors. In addition, Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) has been named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.

Kalinowski entered the postseason with 963 assists which ranks fourth in the GLIAC and is the sixth highest mark in program history. She was also named GLIAC Setter of the Week on Oct. 24, the first conference weekly honor for any Laker since at least 2009, after leading her team to consecutive victories for the first time since 2019 by assisting on 80 kills, including a 38-assist, 16-dig performance in a 3-0 win over Purdue-Northwest. Overall, Kalinowski has recorded 12 double-doubles, 963 assists, 246 digs, 70 kills, 38 total blocks, and 23 service aces during the regular season, all of which are career-highs.

Velasque got off to a late start this season after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College, but she would go on to eclipse double-digit kills 14 times after making her Laker debut against Saginaw Valley State on Sept. 9. Her 258 kills this season were the top mark amongst her teammates. She also totaled 138 digs, 27 total blocks, 12 service aces, and 12 assists.
