Preview: Laker Volleyball Set to Open Four-Game Homestand Against a Pair of GLIAC Opponents This Weekend

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University volleyball program is set to host two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matches in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium this weekend to start a four-game homestand. On Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m., the Lakers will face the Michigan Tech Huskies, and on the very next day, they will host the Northern Michigan Wildcats at 4 p.m.

The Huskies have won their previous two games, and they are currently holding a 9-5 overall record with a 3-4 mark in the GLIAC. Jillian Kuizenga leads the team in kills scoring 147 points and having a total of 3.13 kills per set. Carissa Beyer, with a total of 186 digs, leads the team defensively.

The Wildcats have a record of 6-1 in the GLIAC 13-2 overall, and they will face the Ferris State Bulldogs prior to their matchup with the Lakers. Lauren Van Remortel, with over 460 assists, consistently sets up hitters such as Jacqueline Smith to score over 260 kills. The Wildcats also can count on Alli Yacko in the backrow, having over 220 digs total. The Lakers were able to give the Wildcats all they could handle in their previous matchup in Marquette with a combined 33 kills from Mariana Velasque (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and Emilee McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) helping to send the match to a decisive fifth set.
