Laker Women's Tennis Season Comes to a Close in GLIAC Tournament

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women's tennis team (5-11, 3-4 GLIAC) fell to the Saginaw Valley State (SVSU) Cardinals in the opening round of the GLIAC Tournament by a final score of 4-0 on Friday.

The Cardinals raced ahead to take the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The duo of Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) and Valentina Parodi (Albissola Marina, Italy) did hold a 4-3 lead in the No. 2 doubles match, but that contest was ultimately left unfinished with the doubles point having been clinched.

SVSU would then clinch the match with wins at the No. 2, 5, and 6 singles matches, leaving the remaining three unfinished. However, despite the loss, Whip, Parodi, and Trinity Ly (Brampton, Ont.) had been battling in their matches prior to them being abandoned, highlighted by Parodi claiming the opening set at the No. 4 spot.

The Lakers will now turn their attention to the offseason with the goal of continuing to improve going into next year.
