ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Division II Women's Midwest Regional Championships this past weekend.

Singles

Sophomore Maddie Whip (Sydney, Australia) came into the tournament as the 16-seeded player in the "A" draw, and she continued her strong individual start to her second season with the Lakers by defeating Findlay's Laiying Alvarado by a score of 7-5, 2-6, [10-8] after a super-tiebreaker in lieu of a full third set. Valentina Parodi (Italy) and Marilou Cote (Levis, Canada) both had strong efforts in their opening round matches of the "A" draw as well, but they would both fall to Quincy's Griva and Maryville's Gonlusen, respectively, with Cote's match being ultimately decided by two points in a third-set super-tiebreaker.

In the "B" draw, Julia Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) and Ana Ossio (Morelia, Mexico) both found themselves victorious after their opening round matches. Ossio earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Tiffin's Shea Foster, and Fraile Raton moved to 4-0 in singles for the fall with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 victory over GLIAC foe Amelia Dickson of Saginaw Valley State. However, both Lakers would see their runs come to an end in the second round.

Doubles

In doubles play, Cote and Tayla Brasier (Bathurst, Australia) were able to earn a win over GLIAC opponents Parker Nolan and Morgan Waller of Ferris State 9-8 after a dominant 7-2 performance in a tiebreaker, but the duo would then fall to the eighth-seeded pairing of Komar/Ruyssen from Wayne State in a competitive set by a score of 5-8.

In the "B" draw, the pairings of Fraile Raton/Martina Oviedo (Cordoba, Argentina) and Whip/Parodi both saw their doubles bracket runs come to an early end after strong efforts against the seventh and eighth-seeded duos in the draw, respectively.

The Lakers close out the fall season when they travel to Hammond, Ind. for the Purdue Northwest Invitational, beginning on Friday, Oct. 14.
