Laker Women's Basketball Falls at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team (4-9, 1-4 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Ferris State Bulldogs (10-4, 3-2 GLIAC) by a final score of 81-57 on Saturday.

Brittany Bowman (Kingsley, Mich.) got the Lakers on the board first, and they would push ahead with an early 7-0 run that was capped off with a Margot Woughter (Traverse City, Mich.) and-one to put her team up 11-8. CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) would then close out the opening quarter with a three pointer and a 14-13 lead.

Both teams battled early in the second quarter with multiple baskets from Woughter and Hacker. The Bulldogs started to slowly pull ahead, but another three from Hacker and a pair of Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) free throws kept the Lakers within two. However, Ferris State would close out the half with a 7-0 run to take a 39-30 lead into the break.

The Bulldogs pushed ahead in the third quarter, but the Lakers kept fighting with a pair of and-one opportunities from Woughter and Hacker. True freshman Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) would then steal the ball away for a fast break layup. However, despite multiple fourth quarter baskets from Metz and the first career points from Amanda Roach (Hartland, Mich.), Ferris State would ultimately hold on for the 81-57 victory.

Hacker led the way offensively with 18 points, shooting a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc, and Woughter joined her in double-digit scoring with 11. Meanwhile, despite having relatively low scoring performances, Mattison Rayman (Otsego, Mich.) and Grace Bradford (Glen Arbor, Mich.) were still able to impact the game on the glass with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.

The Lakers return to action on Thursday, Jan. 12 when they host the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside in Bud Cooper Gymnasium with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
