Laker Men's Tennis Fall to Davenport on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University men's tennis program (6-5, 1-2 GLIAC) fell to the Davenport Panthers (11-7, 2-0 GLIAC) by a final score of 6-1 despite multiple strong individual performances on Saturday.

The Panthers were able to secure the early advantage in the match after sweeping doubles play, but the Lakers would make them earn all three matches in the process. The pairings of Aaron Osmond (Cheltenham, U.K.) and Maxence Hamon (Montreal, Quebec) as well as Lluc Limongi Ollers (Mallorca, Spain) and Xavier Vicent Navarro (Cocentaina, Spain) would both push their opponents to 6-4 contests at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. However, Jordi Fraile Raton (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) and Raul Velasco Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) would prove to have the most competitive match of the three, pushing their opponents to the brink before ultimately falling in a 7-4 tiebreaker.

Osmond, the reigning GLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, would get the Lakers back on track in singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the top singles position. However, the Panthers would then take the No. 2 spot, and despite impressive efforts from both Hamon and Fraile, who each were able to push their opponents to decisive third sets that included a dominant 6-0 second set from Fraile in the No. 4 singles match, Davenport would hold on to survive in both matches to take the match overall before claiming the final two remaining matches as well.

The Lakers will now return home as they prepare to host the Wayne State Warriors in the Student Activity Center with the first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
