Laker Hockey Fall to Mavericks in Game One of the CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs

MANKATO, Minn. - The Lake Superior State University hockey program (9-24-2, 8-17-1 CCHA) fell to the Minnesota State Mavericks (22-12-1, 16-9-1 CCHA) in game one of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Mason Cup Playoff Quarterfinals by a final score of 6-1 on Friday.

The Mavericks struck first with a strike from David Silye at the 3:13 mark in the opening period, and Andy Carrol pushed the lead to 2-0 midway through the opening period.

Brandon Puricelli (Ellisville, Mo.) would then bring the Lakers back to within one after firing the puck past Maverick goaltender Keenan Rancier just over two minutes into the second period after being set up by Artyom Borshyov (Vitebsk, Belarus) and captain Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) who each received an assist on the play. However, Akito Hirose answered right back with a power play goal shortly thereafter.

Minnesota State would then tack on three more in the third period to take game one of the best-of-three series.

The Lakers will be looking to bounce back in game two with the season on the line on Saturday, March 4 with puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m. Central Standard Time.
