Preview: Laker Hockey to Open the New Year With CCHA Road Series at Bowling Green

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program (3-15-2, 2-8-1 CCHA) is set to open up the new year with a Central Collegiate Athletic Conference series on the road against the Falcons of Bowling Green (10-12-0, 7-7-0 CCHA). This will mark the second series between the two teams this season after the Falcons claimed the first two contests by respective scores of 7-4 and 5-1.

Stories to watch:

  • The Lakers will be looking for revenge after being swept by the Falcons in an early December series in the Soo. 

  • The Falcons boast the Hockey Commissioners Association National Player of the Month and CCHA Forward of the Month, Austen Swankler, who tied the NCAA lead in goals (6) and assists (9), while leading the NCAA in points (15), including five assists in the previous series against the Lakers.

  • Seven different Falcons have notched at least ten points this season, including the aforementioned Swankler with his team-leading 28.

  • The first game between the Lakers and Falcons earlier this season resulted in a 7-4 offensive showcase that saw a combined 23 skaters score at least one point. 

  • The Lakers were able to pick up a pair of CCHA victories against the top two teams in the league standings with a 3-2 comeback win at Bemidji St. and a 3-0 shutout of Michigan Tech. 

  • Grant Hindman (Oakland, Mich.) recorded his first career point in the Lakers' most recent contest against UMass in the consolation game of the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off.

  • Logan Jenuwine (Romeo, Mich.) was able to come away with six points in last year's regular season series against the Falcons, including a hat trick on Feb. 2, 2022. He has continued to produce against the Falcons this season with a point in each of the two previous contests in early December.

  • Ten different Lakers have recorded at least five points entering the series against Bowling Green with captain Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) and Dawson Tritt (Spokane, Wash.) each having at least ten.

  • Boudon leads the team in scoring with 14 points (7G, 7A) after 20 games.

  • Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) is currently leading LSSU in assists this season with eight.
