Preview: Laker Hockey Set for Final Preseason Tune-Up Against USNTDP U-18 Team

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State hockey program is set to wrap up their exhibition slate when they travel to Plymouth, Mich. to take on the the United States National Team Development Program Under-18 (USNTDP U-18) squad on Friday, Oct. 7 with the first puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Lakers will be looking to seize more momentum as they move toward the regular season after their 6-1 exhibition victory over Nipissing on Sunday. 

Stories to watch:

  • The Lakers are 3-2 in the all-time series with the USNTDP U-18 team, dating back to 2015, with the most recent meeting having been a 5-1 victory for LSSU on Jan. 21, 2022 in Sault Ste. Marie last season in which four Lakers had multiple points, including three-point performances by Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) and Jack Jeffers (Oakville, Ont.).

  • Fifteen players on the current USNTDP U-18 squad are currently committed to division I programs that are ranked inside the top-20.

  • Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) and Logan Jenuwine (Romeo, Mich.) have had impressive preseasons so far, combining for eight points after two exhibitions.

  • Roy has scored a goal in each of the two exhibition games, including an early tone-setter 18 seconds into the game against Nipissing.

  • The Lake Superior State penalty kill is a perfect 11-11 through the first two exhibition contests.
