LSSU Hockey Program Announces 2022-23 Captains

LSSU Hockey Program Announces 2022-23 Captains

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State Ice Hockey program has named Louis Boudon (Grenoble, France) as the team's captain for the 2022-23 season while Jacob Bengtsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Jack Jeffers (Oakville, Ont.) will serve as alternate captains, as announced by head coach Damon Whitten on Friday.

Boudon was named to the All-CCHA Second Team after producing 44 points on 15 goals and 29 assists while leading his team as captain during the 2021-22 season. He led his team in every offensive statistical category, and he was able to score more short-handed goals (3) than any other player in the CCHA.

"Louis demonstrates exactly what we are looking for as the captain of our program," said Whitten. "Throughout his career, he has established himself as one of the top forwards in the entire country due to his relentless work ethic and attention to detail in his development. Louis has consistently led by example on the ice, in the classroom, and by displaying compassion for all of his teammates. Louis will be only the fourth multi-year captain in the storied history of our program."

Like Boudon, Bengtsson was also named to the All-CCHA Second Team after the previous season. The defenseman finished the season with three goals and 24 assists, and he will be expected to improve upon his impressive sophomore campaign.

"Jacob's work ethic, performance, and personality make him an excellent choice to represent our program as a captain," said Whitten. "Throughout his LSSU career, Jacob has transformed his game and is viewed as one of the top free agent defensemen in the country. His consistent practice habits will help elevate our leadership group."

Jeffers returns for his fifth year of collegiate hockey and his third at LSSU. His additional experience and leadership both on and off the ice will be invaluable to a program that is looking to improve upon last year's record of 18-18-1.

"Jack's personality and voice will be a critical part of our leadership group," said Whitten. "We are thrilled to have Jack's veteran presence back for one more season and look for him to build upon the positive impact he has had on LSSU hockey. We will count on him to lead not only on the ice, but in the locker room and on campus as well."

With the leadership of their captains, the Lakers continue to prepare for the 2022-23 campaign, starting with a tune-up scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 1 against Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich.
