Laker Golf Teams Earn Top-Five Finishes at Flyer Intercollegiate

LEMONT, Ill. - The Lake Superior State University men's and women's golf programs each came away with top-five finishes at the Flyer Intercollegiate, hosted by Lewis University on Monday and Tuesday.

 

Men

The men's team finished third overall with a combined total of 623 strokes over two rounds of competition, and the six Laker golfers competing combined for 21 birdies. The Lakers were led by Braden Falk (Portage, Mich.) and Marko Banic (Calgary, Alb.) who each shot seven over par to be tied for seventh place individually with Falk having had the most impressive single round for the Lakers after staying on par on the opening day. The remaining three golfers competing in the lineup, Alex Bratton (Yorktown, Ind.), Grant Baker (Woodslee, Ont.), and Callum McKay (Calgary, Alb.) each finishing tied for 33rd place on the leaderboard, and Gabe Rathburn (Portage, Mich.), who was competing as an individual, finished two strokes behind them with a total score of 165.

 

Women

The women's team ended the second day of competition with a two-round total of 689 strokes for a fifth place finish. Freshman Lekisha Sasitharan (Shah Alam, Malaysia) continued her strong play on the fairways by finishing the opening day in first place on the leaderboard before ultimately ending the event tied for second place individually, shooting 12 over par. Senior Julia Vess (New Hudson, Mich.) had a two-day score of 172, finishing tied for 17th place, and Marie Mathieu (Marshall, Mich) used three more strokes to finish right behind her in the standings. Jesse Hellebuyck (Almont, Mich.) rounded out the invitational for the Lakers with a two-day total of 186.

The men will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 9 for the Motor City Invitational before both squads wrap up the fall season at the Davenport Panther Invite on Sat. Oct. 15.
