Laker Women's Basketball Fall in OT Against Northwood

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University women's basketball program (0-2) fell in overtime after a hard-fought battle with the Northwood Timberwolves (2-0) by a final score of 76-69 on Saturday.

Both teams battled early as Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) hit a three to put her team up 9-6, but the Timberwolves fought back to within one after the opening quarter. Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.), Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.), and Brittany Bowman (Kingsley, Mich.) each hit a three as LSSU nursed a slim lead. Northwood was able to pull back in front, but another three from Bradford gave the Lakers a 30-29 advantage going into the halftime break.

LSSU was able to get to the line early in the third quarter, extending their lead to five, but the Timberwolves kept hanging around, cutting the lead to one as the Lakers held onto a 46-45 lead going into the fourth quarter. Both teams went blow for blow with one another with the Lakers taking advantage of multiple opportunities at the free throw line. However, Northwood would tie up the game at 59-59 in the final moments, and after LSSU's buzzer-beating attempt fell short, the game would require an extra five minutes to decide a winner.

The Timberwolves struck first in the overtime period, but Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) drove in for a layup to tie up the score. However, despite baskets from Wilder and Makenna Clement (Byron, Mich.), Northwood survived, stealing the win away in overtime.

Bradford led the way offensively with 24 points while also grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds and hitting on all four of her three-point attempts. Wilder and Golden would also finish in double-digit scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lakers will be looking to bounce back on Thursday, Nov. 16 when they host the Tiffin Dragons in Bud Cooper Gymnasium with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
