Women's Basketball Drops Home Game to Michigan Tech

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball fell to Michigan Tech by a score of 74-63 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Thursday evening in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State (7-16, 2-14 GLIAC) fell behind 25-8 in the first quarter. They then outscored Michigan Tech (17-7, 13-3 GLIAC) 21-14 in the second frame to shorten the Huskies' lead to 39-29. Michigan Tech tacked on 18 more points in the third quarter compared to the Lakers' seven, which brought the score to 57-36 with one frame to go. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers outscored the Huskies 27-17, but Michigan Tech prevailed at the buzzer by a 74-63 final.

Senior guard Courtney Jacobsen led Lake State in scoring with 17 points on 4-for-6 shooting, including 3-for-5 on three-point shots. Junior forward Lexie Khon had the team's next-best point total with 10 points. Junior guard Jenna Gregory led in rebounds, tallying eight. Redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt notched four assists.

Lake Superior State was 21-of-24 from the free throw line and Michigan Tech was 14-of-22.

The Lakers made 35.2 percent of their shots from the field, including 22.2 percent on three-pointers, while the Huskies shot 44.6 percent overall and 47.6 from behind the three-point arc.

The Lakers continue play at home against Northern Michigan on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bud Cooper Gymnasium. On Saturday, the Lakers will honor their graduating seniors as part of Senior Day. A ceremony will be held between the women's and men's games against Northern Michigan

The annual Laker Basketball Alumni Reunion is being held this weekend. On Saturday, all basketball alumni will be honored on the court during halftime.
