Women's Basketball Prepares to Host Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball continues Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with two games at home this week in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State (7-15, 2-13 GLIAC) faces Michigan Tech University (16-7, 12-3 GLIAC) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Northern Michigan University (17-6, 12-3 GLIAC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, the Lakers will honor their graduating seniors as part of Senior Day. A ceremony will be held between the women's and men's games against Northern Michigan.

The annual Laker Basketball Alumni Reunion is being held this weekend. On Saturday, all basketball alumni will be honored on the court during halftime.

Last Time on the Court

The Lakers took on then-No. 11 Ashland University on Saturday, falling 75-53.

Sophomore guard Jenna Gregory led the Lakers in scoring with 13 points. She also notched a team-high seven rebounds. Junior forward Lexie Khon tallied 12 points and four rebounds.

Lake Superior State shot 31.3 percent from the field and 28.6 percent on three-pointers. Ashland had a field goal percentage of 49.2, including 28.6 percent from behind the three-point arc.

On free throws, the Lakers were 9-of-12 and the Eagles were 11-of-14.

Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week

Jenna Gregory was named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week on Monday, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department.

Gregory scored nine points, while grabbing 11 rebounds and recording two assists in Lake Superior State's 50-46 win over Wayne State on Thursday evening at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. She then garnered 13 points, seven rebounds and one assist Saturday's home game against then-No. 11 Ashland.

Team Leaders

Lexie Khon leads the Laker offense with a 13.2 points per game average on 45.7 percent shooting. She also leads the team in three-point shooting percentage with 35.2.

Khon also has the team-high in rebounds with 5.3 per game. Jenna Gregory has the next highest with 5.2 per game.

Redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt leads Lake State in assists per game (3.1) and steals per game (1.0).

By the Numbers

Lake State is averaging 57.0 points per game, compared to 69.5 points per game allowed. The Lakers have a 36.1 shooting percentage from the field, including 30.8 percent from three-point range, while their opponents are shooting 44.0 percent from the field and 34.4 from behind the three-point arc. The Lakers currently average 6.2 made three-pointers, 11.3 assists and 5.7 steals per game.

Scouting Michigan Tech

The Huskies enter Thursday's game against the Lakers coming off a 79-54 win against Saginaw Valley State on Saturday and are currently on a six-game winning streak. Following Thursday's matchup against Lake State, Michigan Tech visits Ferris State on Saturday.

Michigan Tech is scoring 65.2 points per game, while allowing 55.8 points per game. They are shooting 43.6 percent on the season, including 35.7 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 36.4 percent overall and 29.2 percent from behind the arc.

The Huskies are led in scoring by Baillie McGirk, who is averaging 13.3 points per game.

Scouting Northern Michigan

The Wildcats head into Saturday's game following a matchup on Thursday when they visit Ferris State. In Northern Michigan's most recent action, they defeated Northwood 54-43 on Saturday. The Wildcats are on a three-game winning streak.

The Wildcats are scoring 60.8 points per game, while allowing 50.6 points per game. They are shooting 41.9 percent from the field, including 33.1 percent on three-point shots, and their opponents make 33.5 percent of their field goal attempts, including 28.1 percent on three-pointers.

Lexi Smith leads Northern Michigan with 10.5 points per game.

For Thursday's Valentine's Day game, two-for-one tickets are available online in advance, or in person at the ticket office on game day.
