LSSU Women's Basketball Falls to Bulldogs 62-46

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball fell to Ferris State University 76-63 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Jim Wink Arena. 

Ferris State (10-7, 7-4 GLIAC) took the lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Lakers 18-12. Lake Superior State (6-12, 1-10 GLIAC) cut into the deficit by outscoring the Bulldogs 10-9 in the second quarter.The score at halftime was 27-22 with Ferris in the lead. The Lakers kept their momentum and continued to reduce their deficit by outscoring Ferris State 20-19 in the third quarter, bringing the score to 42-46. The Bulldogs came out strong in the fourth quarter and outscored the Lakers 16-4 to make the final score 62-46 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Redshirt freshman guard Sadie DeWildt and junior forward Lexie Khon led the Lakers in points with nine. Junior guard Jenna Gregory led the team with 12 rebounds and DeWildt had a team-high five assists.

Lake Superior State made 7-of-8 from the free throw line, while Ferris State converted 4-of-6.

The Lakers made 30.2 percent of their shots from the field and the Bulldogs had a field goal percentage of 46.7.

The Lakers' next matchup is a GLIAC tilt on the road against Northwood University on Thursday at 6 p.m. 

Lake Superior State's next home action is on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. when the Lakers host Wayne State in a conference matchup in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
