Women’s Basketball Ready for Final Games of 2018

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State women's basketball steps away from conference play for its final two games of 2018.

Lake Superior State (3-6) faces Algoma University (3-7) at 1 p.m. on Friday and Alma College (6-4) at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Last Time on the Court

The Lakers went 0-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference play last week as they lost to Saginaw Valley State (73-67) and Northwood (69-47) on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Fantastic Forward

Junior forward Lexie Khon is averaging a team-best 13.8 points per game on 42.9 percent shooting. She is also grabbing a team-leading 5.1 rebounds per game. Khon has scored in double figures in six of nine games played this season.

By the Numbers

Lake Superior State is averaging 60.1 points per game, while the opposition is scoring 72.6 points per game. LSSU is shooting 38.7 percent from the field, including 31.1 percent from three-point range, while opponents are shooting 43.8 percent overall and 34.0 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Lakers are averaging 5.8 made three-pointers and 5.3 steals per game. Junior forward Lexie Khon is pacing the Lakers with 13.8 points per game

Scouting Algoma

Located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Algoma (3-7) is a member of the Ontario University Athletics Conference. The Thunderbirds enter the game with the Lakers having lost to the University of Ottawa 91-55 at the George Leach Centre.

Algoma is scoring 54.3 points per game, while allowing 76.3 points. The Thunderbirds are shooting 33.5 percent on the season and 28.4 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 39.1 percent, including 28.5 percent from behind the arc.

Dionne Martin and Karina Cole are leading the Thunderbirds in scoring average with 10.1 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.

Scouting Alma

Alma (3-7) is an NCAA Division III Institution, which competes in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The Scots are scoring 60.3 points per game, while allowing 60.9 points per game. Alma is shooting 35.8 percent on the season, including 27.6 percent on three-point shots, while their opponents are shooting 35.8 percent overall and 32.1 percent from behind the arc.

The Scots are led in scoring by Jessie Jordan, who is averaging 10.2 points per game.

The Lakers are celebrating Kids Day on Friday. All fans in attendance for the game with Algoma will be admitted free of charge.
