Laker Hockey Fall to Falcons Despite Strong 3rd Period

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) Lakers (12-16-1, 9-11-1 CCHA) fell on the road to the Bowling Green Falcons (12-16-0, 10-8-0 CCHA) by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday.

The Falcons struck first with an early goal from Ethan Scardina in the second minute of the game, and Scardina would later double up the lead midway through the period. The Falcons were then able to add one more at the 17:32 mark to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

Easton Hesse (Beaumont, Alta.) entered the game to start the second period between the pipes. However, the Falcons were able to take advantage of a power play opportunity at the 8:00 minute mark to make it a 4-0 hockey game, and that score would hold going into the second intermission.

The Lakers fought back in the third period as Nate Schweitzer (Champlin, Minn.) and Connor Milburn (Kamloops, B.C) were able to set up Carter Batchelder (Savage, Minn.) on the power play for his eighth goal of the season at the 11:23 mark, and a couple minutes later, Batchelder found his captain Harrison Roy (Lakeville, Mass.) to cut the lead in half. However, despite the Lakers outshooting Bowling Green 39-26, the Falcons were able to hold on to secure the victory.

The Lakers will look to bounce back when they return home to welcome the Augustana Vikings to Taffy Abel Arena for the first time on Friday, Feb. 16 with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
