Men's Basketball Falls to Parkside 75-68 in GLIAC Quarterfinals

KENOSHA, WIS. — Rog Stein led all scorers with 22 points on the night, but sixth-seeded Lake Superior State men's basketball lost to third-seeded Parkside 75-68 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 GLIAC Tournament on Tuesday night at DeSimone Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State (15-12) and Parkside (16-11) played a tightly contested first half with neither team leading by more than five points at any time. The Lakers' Stein, a sophomore forward, led all scorers with 15 points in the first half, but the Lakers went into halftime trailing 36-33. 

In the second half, the Lakers were outscored 39-35 to make the finals score 75-68 in favor of Parkside. The Lakers fought hard to stay in the game and took their first lead of the second half (61-60) on a layup by junior guard Malek Adams with under five minutes remaining, but Parkside went on a 15-7 run to close out the game.

Stein (22 points), senior guard Tim Cairnduff (16), and senior forward Blake Marquardt (14) led the way offensively for the Lakers. Stein led all players in points and rebounds (9). 

The Rangers were led in scoring by Adam Bonk and Ramar Evans with 14 points each. 

Lake Superior State shot 41.9 percent from the field and 36.0 percent on three-point shots, while Parkside made 50.0 percent of its shots from the field, including 46.7 percent on three-pointers.

The Lakers made 7-of-16 free throw attempts compared to 16-of-18 by the Rangers.

With the loss, Lake Superior State's 2018-19 season comes to an end.
