Men’s Basketball Edges Cedarville University 94-92 on Saturday

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State men's basketball defeated Cedarville University 94-92 in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon at Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Lake Superior State (6-4) took a 51-44 lead over Cedarville (7-6) into halftime. In the second half, the Lakers were outscored 48-43, but they held on for the 94-92 victory.

Four Lakers scored in double figures in the win. Junior guard Malek Adams eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the fourth time in his last five games played with a game-high 24 points. Senior forward Blake Marquardt made seven three-pointers for a season-high 21 points. Sophomore forward Rog Stein added 15 points and senior guard Tim Cairnduff scored 12.

Cedarville was led in scoring by Branden Maughmer, who tallied 21 points. 

Both teams shot well from behind the three-point line. The Lakers went 12-of-24 and the Yellow Jackets were 9-of-19. The Lakers held an edge in free throw attempts as they took 26 (20 made) compared to 17 (15 made) by the Yellow Jackets.  

The Laker bench outscored the Yellow Jacket bench 35-20 in the game.

Lake Superior State returns to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference play at Davenport University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Lakers then return home to face Grand Valley State on Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. inside Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
