SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State men's basketball faces Cedarville in a nonconference game at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
Last Time on the Court
The Lakers (5-4) last played on Dec. 18 — defeating Algoma 100-69 in a nonconference game at Bud Cooper Gymnasium. Lake State had a dominant first half as it led 58-26 at halftime. The Lakers maintained their lead in the second half as they cruised to a 31-point victory.
Fourteen different Lakers scored in the win, including three Lakers who scored in double figures. Senior guard Tim Cairnduff and senior forward Blake Marquardt each scored 13 points, and redshirt sophomore Jackson Schrameyer scored 12 points.
Team Leaders
Junior guard Malek Adams is leading the Lakers in scoring average with 16.3 points per game. Adams has eclipsed the 20-point plateau in three games this season – tallying 24 points at Wayne State on Dec. 1, 23 points against Saginaw Valley State at home on Dec. 6, and 20 points in a home game with Northwood on Dec. 8.
Sophomore forward Rog Stein leads the team in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game and he is second in scoring with 14.4 points per game.
By the Numbers
Lake Superior State is averaging 82.2 points per game of offense compared to 76.8 by its opponents. LSSU is shooting 50.2 percent from the field, including 40.2 percent from three-point range. LSSU is limiting its opponents to 45.3 percent shooting and 36.8 percent from behind the three-point arc. The Lakers are averaging 18.6 assists per game.
Scouting Cedarville
Cedarville (7-5) last played at the Florida Southern Classic on Dec. 18-19. The Yellow Jackets lost to seventh-ranked Florida Southern 64-61 on the 18th before rebounding to defeat Saint Leo 77-70 on the 19th.
The Yellow Jackets, who are averaging 79.2 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting, have three players averaging double figures in points. Conner TenHove is leading the way with 15.4 points per game.
Looking Ahead
The Lakers return to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at Davenport on Jan. 3 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Lakers' next home game is against Grand Valley State on Nov. 5.
