SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State volleyball team lost a competetive match against the #20 Michigan Tech Huskies in four sets (16-25, 20-25, 25-23, 19-25).
First Set
The Lakers would come out to a 2-0 start to the first set. The Huskies would rally back to score four unanswered points. The Huskies and Lakers would trade points until the Huskies went on a furious scoring run to make the score 14-22. The final score of the first set would be 25-16. The Lakers had 10 kills in the set. The Lakers hitting percentage was .241 and the Lakers also attacked 29 times.
Second Set
The Huskies would come out to an early 3-0 lead to begin the set. The Lakers would answer with three points of their own. The Lakers would continue to make the set competitive until the Huskies would pull away to make the score 16-22. The Lakers rallied and made the match more even as the score became 20-24. Eventually, the Huskies would pull off a 25-20 win. The Lakers improved to have 13 kills in the set.
Third Set
The Lakers would come out red hot to start the set. With a score of 3-1 the Huskies would rally to take a 12-8 lead. Followed by some creative digs by the Lakers, the Lakers rallied themselves to make the score an even 14 a piece. The Match would go back and forth until Lake State would take a 22-20 lead. Followed by a Husky timeout, the Lakers would stay alive in the match by mounting a great comeback to win the match 25-23.
Fourth Set
The Huskies would open the set with a 3-1 lead. The Lakers would come back to tie the game at four a piece. The Huskies would then go on a scoring run of 5-1 to make the score 9-5. The Lakers would battle back to make it 10-12 after some impressive kills. The Huskies would go on to score four straight points to make the score 10-16. After a timeout from Laker Head Coach Dave Schmidlin, the Lakers would score some quick points making the score 14-18. With the score 14-23, the Lakers would rally to make the score 19-24. In the end, the Huskies would win the game 25-19.
Up Next
The Lakers will conclude their season on Saturday, Nov. 16 as they face Northern Michigan at 1pm. Following the game will be a brief ceremony to honor the Laker seniors for their accomplishments.
The 2019 Volleyball season will conclude by honoring the Lake State seniors directly following the game against Northern Michigan on Nov. 16.
