Lakers Volleyball Records First Home Win of the Season

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's volleyball team defeated the Purdue-Northwest Pride in straight sets on Saturday, Oct. 12 of Great Lake State Weekend in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The Lakers record improves to 5-12 overall and 2-7 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play this season.

With the win, the Lakers have matched last season's win total (5) as well as their conference win total from 2018-19 (2). The victory is the Lakers first home win of the 2019-20 season.

The first set was close with the GLIAC opponents trading points for most of the play. The Lakers would grab a late lead and detspite the Pride's comeback attempt, the Lakers held on for a 25-23 win. In the second set, the Lakers controlled the majority of play eventually clinching the set by a 17-9 score. 

Lake State continued its strong play through the third set as the Lakers went on to win the third set, and the match, by a score of 25-14. Senior outside hitter Amanda Reid would tally the game's match point to seal the win for the Lakers.

The Lakers will travel to The Academy located in Indianapolis, Ind. for matches on both Friday, Oct 18 and Saturday, Oct 19. These games will be a part of the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament.
