Lakers Split Final Day of Midwest Crossover

INDIANAPOLIS -- After picking up a win against Ursuline on Friday, the Lake Superior State volleyball team split their final two matches on Saturday.

The Lakers started the day off with a sweep of Trevecca Nazarene (25-21, 26-24, 25-20) and fell to Ohio Valley in five sets (16-25, 25-20, 25-11, 26-28, 8-15).

Lake State's overall record is now 5-17 and 2-9 against the conference. Trevecca Nazarene is 7-15, 5-8 and Ohio Valley is 7-15, 3-11.

Game 1:

Lake State was led offensively by junior Amanda Reid who notched 14 kills in the win. Senior Morgan Kelly was second with ten. Kelly had a .280 hitting percentage, while Reid's was .235.

In assists, senior setter Lauren Lukasik led the way with 16 while Halle Grulke had 14.

Senior libero Paige Gotham led the Lake State defense with 14 digs. Reid had the next-best of 12.

Trevecca Nazarene was led by Austyn Baldwin's 33 kills offensively, and Hannah Bornemann had 11 digs.

The Lakers had a hitting percentage of .172, compared to Trevecca Nazarene's of .111

Game 2:

Reid led the Lakers offense in game two as well, notching 14 kills. Kelly was close behind with 13, and also had a .407 hitting percentage.

Lukasik had the team-high in assists with 27, and Grulke had 14.

Gotham held down the Lake State defense with 18. Reid had 11.

For Ohio Valley, Yolaine Lopez and Nia Nix tied for the team lead in kills with 14. In digs, Carolina Ramirez recorded 24.

The Lakers hitting percentage was .223, while Ohio Valley's was .230.

LSSU returns to action next weekend on the road against Michigan Tech on Friday and Northern Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 19-20).

They return home Oct. 26-27 to host Northwood on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Northern Michigan on Saturday (2 p.m.).
