Volleyball Heads to Indianapolis for Midwest Region Crossover

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—After playing against two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents last weekend, the Lake Superior State volleyball team will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to play in the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover.

On Friday, the Lakers (3-16 overall, 2-9 GLIAC) will take on Ursuline College (8-9, 4-7) at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, Lake State plays Trevecca Nazarene (7-11, 5-8) at 10 a.m. and Ohio Valley (6-13, 3-11) at 4 p.m.

Last Time Out:
LSSU fell to Davenport University and Grand Valley State last weekend when they hosted the two conference opponents.

By the Numbers:
Junior Amanda Reid has paced the Lakers offense this season leading the team with 221 totals kills (2.99/set), which is good for 9th in the GLIAC. Reid is third on the team in hitting percentage at .122.

Freshman middle blocker Kelly Walter is second on the team with 115 kills on the season and leads the team with a .151 hitting percentage. In second is Bethany Wilson with a .146 hitting percentage.

On defense, senior libero Paige Gotham leads the team and ranks No. 9 in the GLIAC with 315 total digs and 4.26 digs per set this season. Reid is second with 245 digs and ranks No. 15 in the GLIAC while senior Mikala Williams has posted 226 and ranks No. 22 in the GLIAC.

At the setter position, senior Lauren Lukasik is ranked No. 14 in the GLIAC and leads the team in assists with 292 throughout the season. Freshman Halle Grulke is ranked No. 16 in the GLIAC with a total of 231.

As a team, the Lakers are hitting at a.085 clip with 707 total kills to start the season. LSSU has compiled a total of 1197 digs, and averaging 16.18 digs per set throughout the season.

Scouting the Arrows:
Ursuline will be coming off of two losses as they played Cedarville University on Saturday and Tiffin University on Sunday.

The Arrows are averaging a .175 hitting percentage this season with a total of 760 kills. Ursuline also has 1096 digs on the season with 17.1 digs/set. They are currently ranked 4th in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference East division.

Victoria Henderson leads Ursuline with 3.73 kills per set and is ranked 3rd in the GMAC. Katelyn Selleny leads the Arrows in assists per set with 10.19.

Scouting Trojans:
The Trojans are on a three-game losing streak as they lost to Alabama-Huntsville, University of Findlay and Hillsdale College.

Trevecca plays William Jewell Friday afternoon before the play the Lakers Saturday morning.

Trevecca is currently in 6th place in the west division of the GMAC. Senior Jordan Sprinkle leads team with 1 block per set, and Hannah Bornemann leads the team with .40 service aces per set.

Scouting the Fighting Scots:
Ohio Valley is coming off of a two-game losing streak before entering the weekend.

The Fighting Scots play University of Southern Indiana on Friday and University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday morning before taking on the Lakers in the evening.

Kalyn Makimoto is leading the Fighting Scots in digs per set with 4.30 and leading the team in digs with 284.
