Lakers Fall to Grand Valley in Four Sets

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lake Superior State volleyball team took on Grand Valley State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers picked up a win in set one (26-24) and fell in the following three sets (25-15, 25-14, 25-16).

With the loss, LSSU's record falls to 3-15 overall and 2-8 against conference opponents. GVSU is now 12-6, 5-5.

Junior Amanda Reid led the team in kills with 16, followed by freshman Bethany Wilson tallying ten. Reid also notched a .262 hitting percentage and Wilson's was .300.

In assists, senior Lauren Lukasik and freshman Halle Grulke led the way for Lake State with 17 and 16, respectively.

Reid totaled the team-high in digs with 17, while senior Paige Gotham had 16.

For GVSU, Staci Brower led the offense with 20 kills and Alexandra Thompson had their defense with 16 digs.

Lake State's hitting percentage was .154 and Grand Valley finished with .310.

The Lakers return to the court next weekend (Oct. 12-13) as they travel to Indianapolis to participate in the Midwest Region Crossover. They'll face Ursuline on Friday (2:30 p.m.), followed by a pair of matches on Saturday against Trevecca Nazarene (10 a.m.) and Ohio Valley (4 p.m.).

They return home Oct. 26-27 to host Northwood on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Northern Michigan on Saturday (2 p.m.).
