LSSU Volleyball Hosts Pair of Conference Opponents

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lake Superior State volleyball team returns home this weekend for a pair of games against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents.

The Lakers host Purdue Northwest on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (2 p.m.) inside the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Heading into the weekend, Lake State owns a 1-14 record overall with a 0-7 record in conference play. Purdue Northwest is 1-14 overall record and is 0-7 against conference opponents while Wisconsin-Parkside is 4-11, 2-5.

Last Time Out:

Last weekend, LSSU fell to both Ferris State and Northwood on the road in a pair of three-set matches.

By The Numbers:

Junior outside hitter Amanda Reid leads the Lakers offense with 154 kills (2.70/set). Freshman Kelly Walter is second with 95, and freshman Camdyn Odykirk is third with 77 kills. Walter also leads the team in hitting percentage at .190.

Senior libero Paige Gotham leads the Lakers on defense and ranks 8th in the GLIAC with 242 digs this season. Reid has the next-best mark with 194, and senior Mikala Williams has 176.

In assists, senior setter Lauren Lukasik leads the team with 227. Halle Grulke is second, totaling 182.

The Lakers have posted a .082 hitting percentage and notched 543 kills thus far. LSSU ranks No.6 in the league in total digs (965) and digs per set (16.93).

Scouting the Pride:

Purdue Northwest enters this weekend's games coming off a pair of losses last weekend at home against Ashland and Wayne State.

As a team, the Pride have a .110 hitting percentage and have tallied 559 kills.

Jenna Dal Santo leads the team with 133 kills. Christina Dal Santo leads the team defensively with 201 digs.

Scouting the Rangers:

Wisconsin-Parkside hosted Wayne State and Ashland last weekend. The Rangers picked up a win in five sets against Wayne State, but fell to Ashland in three sets the following night. They travel to Saginaw Valley on Friday night prior to facing the Lakers on Saturday.

The Rangers have a .102 hitting percentage and have notched 651 kills this season.

Lexie Calloway leads the team in kills with 202 and is ranked fifth in the GLIAC with 3.45 kills per set. Defensively, Ann Leo leads the way for the Rangers and is first in the GLIAC with 315 digs.

Following this weekend's games, the Lakers continue home action in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium with a pair of games Oct. 5-6. They host Davenport on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Grand Valley on Saturday (2 p.m.).
