Lakers Swept by Northwood in Road Match

MIDLAND, Mich.— The Lake Superior State volleyball team fell to Northwood in straight sets (10-25, 21-25, 28-30) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Lakers drop to a 1-14 record overall, with a 0-7 record in conference play. Northwood is now 6-9 overall and 3-4 within the conference.

Junior Amanda Reid had ten kills to lead the Lake State offense. Sophomore Kyra Vezina and freshman Kelly Walter each had four. Walter had a hitting percentage of .250.

On defense, senior libero Paige Gotham had 14 kills, while Reid had 12.

Lauren Lukasik led the team in assists with 20, and freshman Halle Grulke had 6.

LSSU had a hitting percentage of .000. Northwood's was .227.

Mary Gallagher led Northwood's offense with 13 kills and Brenna Murphy had the team-high in digs with 11.

The Lakers return home next weekend, Sept. 28-29, to host Purdue Northwest on Friday (6:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (2 p.m.).
