Lakers Hit The Road For A Pair of Conference Matches

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich.—The Lake Superior State volleyball team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchups.

LSSU will make a stop in Big Rapids, Mich., on Friday (12 p.m.) to take on No.7-ranked Ferris State before heading to Northwood on Saturday (2 p.m.).

The Lakers enter the weekend with a 1-12 record overall with a 0-5 mark in league play. The Bulldogs are 10-3, 5-0 and the Timberwolves are 5-8, 2-3 on the season.

Last Time Out:
Last weekend, Lake State dropped a pair of three-setters on the road at Wayne State and Ashland. Last Tuesday the Lakers fell, 2-3 at Saginaw Valley.

By The Numbers:
Junior outside hitter Amanda Reid paces the Lakers offense with 136 total kills (2.67/set) this season.

Freshman middle blockers Kelly Walter (81) and Camdyn Odykirk (71) are second and third respectively in total kills. Walter leads the team with a .181 hitting percentage.

Defensively, senior libero Paige Gotham leads the team and ranks No.8 in the GLIAC with 214 (4.20 per set) digs this season. Reid is second with 169 digs while senior Mikala Williams has posted 159.

At the setter position, senior Lauren Lukasik tops the team with 189 assists Freshman Halle Grulke is second with 171.

As a team, the Lakers are hitting at a .088 clip with 484 total kills and are No.5 in the league in total digs with 850.

Scouting the Bulldogs:
FSU is coming off a pair wins over Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech last weekend and are riding a five-match win steak heading into Friday's matchup. 

Ferris owns a .227 hitting percentage on the season which is good for 3rd in the GLIAC.

Allyson Cappel paces the Bulldogs offense and ranks No.3 in the GLIAC in in kills per set (3.62) and is No.5 in total kills (170).

Scouting The Timberwolves:
Northwood enters this weekend's action coming off a pair off losses to Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan.  They'll host Saginaw Valley in their Friday night match.

As a team the Timberwolves are hitting at a .135 clip with 511 total kills on the season.

Mackenzie Kepler leads the team offensively with105 kills on the year. Brenna Murphy leads the team with 177 digs.

Up Next:
After this weekend's action, the Lakers return to Bud Cooper Gymnasium Sept.28-29 as they host Purdue-Northwest (6:30 p.m.) and Wisconsin-Parkside (2 p.m.)
