Laker Volleyball falls to Saginaw Valley In Five Sets

SAGINAW, Mich.--The Lake Superior State volleyball team took on Saginaw Valley in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday evening, ultimately falling to the Cardinals in five sets.

With the loss, LSSU slips to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in the conference. SVSU moves to 8-3, 2-1

The Lakers dropped set one 22-25 but bounced back to take the second and third sets (25-23, 25-18). LSSU then dropped the fourth and fifth sets 8-25 and 10-15.

Lake State's offense was led by junior outside hitter Amanda Reid, who notched 15 kills. Freshman Kelly Walter and sophomore Kyra Vezina each had ten.

Freshman Halle Grulke led the team in hitting percentage with .500. Freshman Bethany Wilson was close behind with .400.

Senior libero Paige Gotham held down the defense with 25 digs. Williams had 23.

Senior setter Lauren Lukasik tallied 37 assists, with Grulke notching the team's next-best of seven.

Emily Friesl led SVSU with 14 kills, while Abbie Toland led the team defensively with 29 digs.

LSSU had a hitting percentage of .120, compared to SVSU's of .150.

The Lakers return to action on the road on Friday against Wayne State (7 p.m.) and then travel to face Ashland on Saturday (2 p.m.).
