Brandon Lokken enters his seventh season as head coach of the Lake Superior State women's basketball team in 2023-24. Lokken, the 12th head coach in program history, has been determined to guide the program back to prominence.

Lokken has fully embraced the rebuilding process of the women's basketball program since taking the reins and has fostered improvement during his tenure. In his six seasons in the role, Lokken has led the Lakers to a 31-117 overall record and a 17-97 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Lokken stepped in as the interim head coach of the Lakers women’s basketball team on June 19, 2017 after years as an assistant coach for the men’s program at LSSU. Following his first season in the position, Lokken signed a four year contract on April 25, 2018.

In his first season, Lokken led the Lakers to a 3-22 overall record (2-18 GLIAC) during the 2017-18 season, including a pair of conference wins. The following year, Lokken’s guidance and leadership led the Lakers to post eight wins for the first time since the 2011-12 season. The 2018-19 Laker team finished the season with a 8-19 overall record and a 3-17 mark in GLIAC play.

In 2019-20, Lokken led the Lakers to another eight win season (8-19, 4-16 GLIAC). The 2019-20 team’s four conference wins mark the most GLIAC victories for the Lakers since the 2015-16 season. In addition, the 2019-20 team posted six home wins, the most by the Lakers since the 2010-11 season.

In 2020-21, the Lakers struggled with injuries and adversity during the COVID-19 shortened season. The team posted an 1-18 overall record playing a conference-only schedule. Sophomore forward Mattison Rayman received Second Team All-GLIAC honors.

In 2021-22, the Lakers finished with a 4-20 overall record, including a season sweep of Purdue Northwest.

In his most recent season, The Lakers finished with an overall record of 7-19. During the season he coached the GLIAC Freshman of the Year in Grace Bradford as well as All-GLIAC Second-Teamer Mattison Rayman who finished as the top two rebounders in the conference. Additionaly, Rayman became the 22nd member of the LSSU women's basketball 1,000-point club and finished her Laker career as the 3rd leading rebounder in program history.

Lokken has deep roots with the Lake Superior State basketball programs as he served as a student manager and student assistant coach for the men’s basketball team four four seasons during his time as an undergraduate at LSSU. As a student manager and assistant coach, Lokken was an integral member of Head Coach Steve Hettinga’s staff. Lokken was a member of the coaching staff when the Lakers won the GLIAC North Division title in 2008-09, and was part of two of Hettinga’s three NCAA Tournament appearances.

He served as a second assistant and JV head coach for the men’s team at Lake State in 2014-15 and was promoted to top assistant in 2015-16. Lokken spent two seasons as Hettinga’s top assistant.

Prior to rejoining the men’s basketball team as an assistant coach, Lokken spent the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons as a member of the Goshen (Ind.) College men’s basketball coaching staff. At Goshen, Lokken served as the junior varsity head coach as well as the interim varsity head coach.

A native of Flushing, Mich., Lokken graduated from Lake Superior State in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education. Lokken resides in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. with his wife, Kelsey.
