Women's Basketball Set for a Weekend on the Road Against Parkside and Purdue Northwest

SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team will travel to Wisconsin Parkside on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. and Purdue Northwest on Feb. 22 at 1:00 p.m. These two games will close out the Lakers final full weekend of Great Lake Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) competition. 

The Lakers

The Lakers broke their 11 game losing streak with a 59-54 victory over Northern Michigan on Feb 13th. In the game, the Lakers were led by Lexie Khon who would score 22 points and have five rebounds in the game. The Lakers would lead 31-24 at halftime and would hold on to win the game. On Saturday, the Lakers would fall to the Michigan Tech Huskies after briefly leading in the early moments of the first period. Despite winning the second half of the game, the Lakers would not be able to mount a comeback and fell to the Huskies by a score of 75-61. Khon would become the 22nd Laker to score her 1000th career point in the game. 

Wisconsin Parkside Rangers

The Rangers currently sit in second place in the GLIAC North Division and have clinched a spot in the GLIAC tournament. The Rangers have lost their last two games. In their last matchup, the Lakers were defeated by the Rangers by a score of 64-55 in a close game. The Rangers are coached by Jen Conley who is in her second season in the position. 

Purdue-Northwest Pride

The Pride currently sport a 6-19 record. In their last matchup, PNW defeated the Lakers by a score of 54-46. Despite nine rebounds by Mattison Rayman and 24 points from Khon, the Lakers could not hold on to their 20-18 lead at halftime. PNW is coached by the Rookie head coach, Courtney Locke.

The Lakers will travel to Big Rapids, Mich. to face Farris State in their final regular season game. The game will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27th.
