Women's Basketball Set for a GLIAC Game Against Davenport to Start the New Year

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University women's basketball team will open the new year with a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game against the Davenport University Panthers on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. 

The Lakers (5-5, 1-2 GLIAC)

The Lakers return to play following a tournament in southern California to end out the first half of the season, where the team recorded a win and a loss in the pair of games. Heading into the second half of the season, the Lakers overall record sits at 5-5 overall and 1-2 in GLIAC games. The Lakers are led by senior forward Lexie Khon who averages 12.3 points a game this season. Khon has posted 10 or more points in seven of the Lakers games this season. In the team's most recent win, the Lakers were led by freshman forward Mattison Rayman with 17 points and 20 rebounds. Rayman ranks second on the Lakers with 10.7 points per game this season and leads the team in rebounds (9.0 per game).

Through ten games this season, the Lakers have averaged 57.9 points per game, 32.3 rebounds per game and a 38.7 shooting percentage. 

Davenport University Panthers (5-6, 0-3 GLIAC)

The Panthers head into the conference game looking for their first GLIAC win of the season but are coming off a win over Cornerstone in their most recent game. Davenport is led by the duo of Madison Jones and Toni Grace. Jones averages 17.9 points per game on a 45.1 shooting percentage to lead the team while Grace has averaged 16.5 points per game. Both players rank in the top five scorers in the GLIAC this season. Defensively, the team is strong on rebounds as the Panthers are led by Jenna Falkenberg who averages 8.5 rebounds per game this season, and Elise Scaggs, who averages 7.9 rebounds per game.

Through eight games this season, Davenport averages 77.0 points per game, 39.6 rebounds per game and a 27.7 shooting percentage.
