Women's Basketball Continues Homestand with GLIAC Opener This Week

Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University women's basketball team will open up Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) competition on Thursday, Dec. 5 against No. 6 Ashland University at 5:30 p.m. and against Wayne State on Saturday Dec. 7 at 1:00 p.m. The Lakers will host both games in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. 

The Lakers

The Lakers are currently 3-2 on the season after their Nov. 22 win against Finlandia. The Lakers are led by senior forward Lexie Khon who averages 15 points a game. The Lakers have also had strong performances from junior guard Jenna Gregory who leads her squad in assists, freshman forward Mattison Raymon who leads in rebounds and senior guard Claire Radtke who leads her team in steals on the year.

#6 Ashland Eagles (5-0)

The Eagles have a perfect record this season and are ranked #6 in the nation for Division II women's basketball. The Eagles are averaging 99.6 points per game which is first overall in Division II. The Eagles also average 31 rebounds a game. The Eagles are led in points by senior forward Sara Loomis who averages 20.8 points a game. The Eagles are coached by the seven year veteran Kari Pickens. 

Wayne State University (5-1)

After dropping the first game of the year, the Warriors have won five straight games to make their record 5-1. The Warriors have been led in points this season by sophomore forward Grace George who has 89 on the year so far. The Warriors are averaging 75 points a game this season as well as 39.9% from the field. The Warriors are coached by Carrie Lohr who is in her ninth season in the position.

Saturday, Dec. 7 vs. Wayne State @ 1:00 p.m.

The Lakers will host Ferris State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.
