Women's Basketball Records a 63-57 Victory over Tiffin

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team won a non-conference game against the Tiffin University Dragons by a final score of 63-57 on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. With the win, the Lakers overall record improves to 2-2.

The Lakers had a strong start, scoring the first five points of the game against the Tiffin University Dragons. The Dragons would come within one point of the Lakers with 4:52 remaining in the opening quarter (12-11). The quarter would close with the two teams tied at 17 points apiece. In the second quarter, the Dragons would go on a 12 point scoring run to take a 31-23 lead over the Lakers. The Lakers would tighten Tiffin's lead to three points by the end of the half (31-28). 

In the second half, the Lakers went on their own scoring run in the third quarter with 14 straight points to take a 43-33 lead over the Dragons. Lake State would outscore the Dragons 17-11 in the third quarter to regain the game's lead by a 45-42 total. 

In the last quarter of play, the game's tight play continued. The Lakers held a three point lead through the halfway point of the quarter (51-48). Following a solid final few minutes of play from the Lakers, the team would clinch the win by a final score of 63-57. 

The Lakers were led by the tandem of Claire Radtke and Lexie Khon who each recorded 15 points in the game. Radtke, a senior guard posted four three-pointers on five attempts to lead the Lakers while also contributing six rebounds and four steals. Khon, a senior forward, went five-for-five on free throws and made five field goals on seven attempts. Freshman forward Mattison Rayman added 13 points for the Lakers and led the team in rebounds with 12. 

Lake Superior shot 40.4 percent from the field and 42.9 percent on three-pointers, while Tiffin shot 36.5 percent from the from the field and 20.8 percent on three-pointers.

The Lakers will return to action to face Finlandia University on Friday, Nov. 22 at 1:00 pm in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. It will mark the annual "Kids Day Game" and the Lakers will welcome students from Lincoln and Washington Elementary to this game. There will be no admission fee for this game.
