Roger An Named Assistant Coach for Laker Cross Country and Track and Field

Roger An

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Lake Superior State cross country and track and field head coach Rob Gallinger has announced the hiring of Roger An as assistant coach.

"Coach An is going to be a great asset to this team; coming from a variety of programs and experiences" Gallinger said. "He has already gained a wealth of knowledge that I am looking forward to tapping into here. His recruiting experience is going to be invaluable in pushing this team forward to new heights. Let's go Lakers!"

An comes to Lake Superior State from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, where he was pursuing a masters of sport management and had served as an assistant in the athletic communications office. Prior to his time at Southern Nazarene University, An attended The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While attending The College of Wooster, An was a member of the Fighting Scots' track and field and football teams.

"I am very excited to become an assistant coach with the Lake Superior State University track and field and cross country programs," An said. "I look forward to contributing in a variety of ways, including working with the sprinters and distance runners, assisting in planning the strength and conditioning protocols, recruiting future student-athletes and helping out in any other way I am needed. I think that my experiences of having been a multi-sport athlete in college (football, baseball & track and field) allows me to bring a different perspective to coaching – both from the physical and mental sides of things."

An's coaching experience in athletics extends back to 2011 when he became an assistant coach as part of Challenger League Baseball, a youth baseball league for children with special needs, in Dumont, New Jersey. He continued with the challenger league every summer from 2011 to 2017. As a member of the track team at The College of Wooster, An was a member of the senior leadership committee and was also an assistant recruiting coordinator during his junior and senior years. In addition, he was an assistant specialist coach for sprints at The College of Wooster Track and Field Camp – coaching prospective college student-athletes.

Hailing from River Vale, New Jersey, An hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from The College of Wooster ('18).
