SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lake Superior State men's basketball student-athlete Nigel Colvin has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Lake Superior State athletic department on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Colvin, a freshman guard from Detroit, Mich., led the Lakers in points in both of the team's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) games this week. Colvin posted a career-high 28 points in Thursday's game at Michigan Tech to lead the Lakers in the game. The freshman recorded a 71.4 shooting percentage as he went 10-for-14 in the game. The finance/economics major followed up with a team-high 12 points against Northern Michigan on Saturday. Colvin ranks second on the Lakers this season in points per game with 10.2.

It is the first time that Colvin has been named the Madigan/Pingatore Insurance Athlete of the Week.

The Lakers will return home for a pair of conference games on Thursday, Jan. 23 against Purdue Northwest at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 25 against Wisconsin Parkside at 3:00 p.m. in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. Thursday's game will include a halftime ceremony recognizing the Laker student-athletes who earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. Mascot day will be held at the Laker basketball games on Saturday.
