Men's Basketball Win Streak Snapped Against No. 11 Ferris State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team's win streak was snapped in a 97-86 loss against No. 11 Ferris State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up on Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

The Lakers held the early advantage in the game, taking an 11-5 lead over the Bulldogs in the early minutes of play. Ferris State would even the score at 15 before eventually going ahead in the game (17-15). Ferris would maintain the lead for the remainder of the first half. The Lakers would tighten the lead to three points on multiple occasions but the Bulldogs would keep possession of the lead. At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs held a 55-37 lead over the Lakers. 

The Lakers would come out strong in the second half, with a 13-8 point advantage in the opening five minutes of the half (63-50). A dunk from senior Ke'Montrece Collins would bring the Lakers within 10 points of the Bulldogs. Ferris State would once again build upon the lead to go up by 20 points but the Lakers responded with a 13 point run, led by junior Brandon Allen. Allen would sink three straight three-pointers to spark the Lakers effort and bring the team within seven points (77-70). 

In the final minutes of the game, Lake State was unable to secure the comeback against the ranked Bulldogs. The game would end with Ferris winning by a final score of 97-86. 

Up Next

The Lakers will close out the calendar year with a non-conference game against No. 16 Indianapolis on Tuesday, Dec. 17 in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
