Men's Basketball Ready for Home Opener Against Spring Arbor

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State Men's Basketball team will be back in action for their home opener against Spring Arbor University on Friday, Nov. 15 at 12:00pm in the Bud Cooper Gymnasium. The Lakers will return to the court following last weekend's Trevecca Classic games, where they would split the pair of games to hold a 1-1 overall record. 

The Lakers Thus Far

The Lakers have a 1-1 record after their first two games in the regular season. The Lakers are averaging 79.5 points per game as well as 35 rebounds per game. The Lakers leading scorer, senior forward Ke'Montrece Collins, leads the Lakers in points this year, scoring 33 in the past two games combined. Collins also leads the Lakers from the three-point line where he is shooting 55.6% on the year. Defensively, the Lakers are led in steals by sophomore guards C.J. Robinson and Justin Fischer. Sophomore forward Ashton Sherrel has defended the rim well this year, he averages 2.5 rebounds a game. Lake Superior State has also done a good job of taking care of the ball. The Lakers average 11 turnovers a game.  

Spring Arbor University Cougars (4-2) Crossroads League- Spring Arbor, Mich. 

The Cougars claimed the NAIA Division II national championship title last year. The Cougars, who are the #1 ranked team in the country for NAIA Division II, are led by senior guard Paul Marandet who is shooting 51.9% from the field. Also leading the Cougars, is junior forward Brandon Durnell who has 45 rebounds on the season. 

Overall, the Cougars are shooting 49% from the field and have a 73.1% free throw percentage. The Cougars are also averaging 34.7 rebounds per game.

The Lakers will travel to Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah to participate in the Westminster Classic. The Lakers will face Dixie State on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5:30 pm and tournament host Westminster College on Saturday Nov. 23.
