Men's Basketball Records Win in Second Day of Trevecca Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lake Superior State men's basketball team registered its first win of the 2019-20 season against Southwest Baptist by a final score of 84-78 on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Trevecca Classic in Nashville, Tenn. The Lakers now hold a 1-1 record through their first two games.

Lake State held a 44-34 lead at the end of the first half. The Bearcats would outscore the Lakers in the second half by a margin of 43-41 but the Lakers would hold on to seal the win.

The Lakers were led by sophomore guard Justin Fischer who had a team-high 18 points against the Bearcats. C.J. Robinson and Montrece Collins would round out the top three point scorers for the Lakers in the game as Robinson put up 17 points while Collins had 16 in the game. Lake State's offense was evenly distributed as four players scored 12 or more points against Southwest Baptist.

On the other end of the court, freshman Xander Okerlund had nine rebounds to lead the Lakers while Ashton Sherrell followed with eight rebounds. The effort from Okerlund, Sherrell and their teammates would have the Lakers out-rebounding the Bearcats 39-38 in the game.
