Track & Field Takes Part in the 2021 Hillsdale Invitational

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State men's and women's track and field teams continued the 2021 outdoor season at the 2021 Hillsdale Invitational hosted by Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich. on Saturday, April 10. 

Running Events

In the women's 100 meter dash, Elizabeth Setsuda finished second in her preliminary heat with a time of 12.33 to advance to the finals in the event. Setsuda placed second in the finals with a time of 12.30 to set a new personal best in the distance.

In the men's 100 meter dash, Riley Traver placed sixth in the race with a time of 11.53 in the finals. Tom Hanke placed 10th overall in the men's 200 meter finals with a time of 23.61, which is a new personal record for the junior.

David Mitter continued to break his own records as the distance runner set a new personal best in the 1500 meter distance with a time of 4:05.88. Mitter, who last competed in the distance during the 2018 outdoor season, placed second in the event at the Hillsdale Invitational. 

Field Events

The Laker women secured three of the top ten finishes in the long jump finals with Setsuda leading the way with a distance of 5.25 meters to place third among participants. Ashley Mullings finished seventh in the competition with a distance of 5.00 meters. Breanyl Baker finished one spot behind Mullings to round out the Laker showing in the event as she posted a jump of 4.79 meters. 

Setsuda's strong day for the Lakers continued as she set a personal best in the triple jump with a distance of 10.52 meters to place fifth in the competition. 

Moriah Reed, who competed in the discus, shot put and hammer throw at the Hillsdale Invitational, set a personal best in the hammer with a length of 39.97 meters. Reed placed 11th among the 18 participants in the event. 

Following a record setting performance in her first collegiate competition, freshman javelin thrower Jenna Fleming placed first in the event with a throw of 44.38 meters. It marks the second time this year Fleming has surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark (41.84). At the close of the day, Fleming's best mark of the season ranks 13th in all of Division II. 

In the men's pole vault competition, freshman Noah Murray finished tied for ninth with a mark of 4.17 meters. Murray recorded a new personal best at the Hillsdale Invitational.
